Peter Wharton, who retired in resent years after 15 years as editor of Trackbred, has been involved in harness racing since the mid-1960’s.
He started out as assistant editor and advertising manager of the Australian Trotting Register, working with the late Bruce Skeggs as a journalist and race commentator. In 1990 he joined the staff of Harness Racing Victoria, serving as a journalist and advertising manager with the Gazette before taking up the editorship of Trackbred in 1993.
After a three-year stint Peter was appointed manager of Alabar Bloodstock before joining the staff of Harness Racing Weekly and National Trotguide as journalist and advertising manager where he worked for 10 years.
He again took up the editorship of Trackbred in 2007 and has been the editor of the Australasian Standardbred Stallion Guide since 2014.
He has written articles for the Botra News, Hoof Beats in North America, contributes to the ASBA Website and Breeding Matters in New Zealand.
Peter also works as a pedigree and marketing consultant, valuer and bloodstock agent.
Peter writes a weekly article on breeding for Harnesslink and now Peter has a new venture he will be contributing a feature article and snippets of breeding news – with an emphasis on Vicbred – for the Harness Racing Victoria website every week.
A wide range of breeding subjects will be covered including new stallions, horse auctions, breeder profiles and stud farms.
