Local sires holding their own against shuttle stallions.

Astute breeding consultant John Coffey has told breeders who wish to listen that our local bred sires can more than hold their won against the high-priced shuttle stallions.

With the two-year-old feature race season taking shape Locally bred sires are more than hold their own producing winners.

Poster Boy (advertised service fee $4950), The Storm Inside ($2,500), Wesley (TBA), and Soho Tribeca ($3,000) all first-season sires have seen their progeny salute. Joining them is Vincent and Renaissance Man.

Vincent has also had a two-year-old winner in New Zealand the Tony Herlihy-trained Great White.

Four-time Group 1 winner Vincent (oldest progeny are 3yo’s) has wasted no time asserting his dominance as a leading young stallion, siring 13 stakes horses, including Group 2 winners Sherlock, Vinke B & Vessem.

Poster Boy has had three winners to date all winning on their first visit to the racetrack, The Storm Inside has had four individual winners, and Soho Tribeca and Wesley both have one winner each.

Looking at the three-year-old sires’ list Vincent, Lazarus, Bling It On, Tiger Tara Ultimate Machete, and Ohoka Punter all have sired winners this season.

Other southern hemisphere bred stallions who have older stock of racing age that have  produced 10 or more winners this season include Fly Like An Eagle (24 winners to date) Follow The Stars (26), For A Reason (24)

So, when considering the stallion for your mare you should at least ask yourself if a local sire is the best match for your mare.

First season sire The Storm Inside currently has sired four winners.
