Countdown to ID23 - A look back to Queensland first running of the Inters.

In 1972 Brisbane hosted its first Interdominion at the then clockwise circuit Albion Park, this December Albion Park will host its fifth Inters and Queensland’s sixth the 2009 edition was held at the Gold Coast track.

But in 1972 it was a black entire from Junee in New South Wales called Welcome Advice came of 12 yards to run down the leader Monaro to score convincingly with Victoria speedster Reichman third.

The first night heats Welcome Advice finished 8th to Deep Court but rebounded to win his heats on the second and third nights.

Trained by George Harpley at Junee and driven by Alan Harpley Welcome Advice was bred by Mrs E. Minchin of New South Wales, with his Inters victory Welcome Advice became the first horse to win $100,000 solely in Australia. The five-year-old went on to win 13 of his 22 starts which earned him the title of NSW Horse of the Year.

Welcome Advice had some success at stud, his best was Action Advice who won the 1979 Queensland Sapling Stakes and the New South Wales Derby in 1980.

ID23 heats commence on Friday December 1, second round on Tuesday December 5 and the final night of heats is on Saturday December 9 the Grand Final December 16.
